2020 is for laser-like focus

2019 was intense. Over three months, my family blew up our whole lives. We decided to adopt again, moved, got a larger vehicle, the kids changed schools, and I merged my company into a larger one, taking on a new role.

It has taken me close to six months to adjust to things and start to feel normal. Change is hard. That much change all at once was crazy.

Now that I’m back to normal, I got some great advice from a buddy to make 2020 a year of focus.

Bruce Lee said, “The successful warrior is the average man with laser-like focus.”

This year, I’ll be that man. In 2020, I will focus on:

Growing my family

In 2020 we will bring home our adopted son Tong (Thomas) from China. To prepare for that, we are doing some fundraising, and I’m learning Mandarin.

I also want to:

  • Get our home ready for Tong
  • Finish setting up our new house
  • Spend one on one time with the kids regularly
  • Play more board games as a family

I want 2020 to be an amazing year for each of our kids, and I’ll work hard to make that happen!

Growing my company

My role at Dragon Army is to help the company grow. Right now, that is through getting new clients.

In 2020, I’ll be leaning harder into this role than ever before. I will be creating content and meeting with people. I will be speaking and publishing on some larger websites. I will also make more of an effort to be active on LinkedIn and other social platforms.

Growing key relationships

There are key relationships in my life that I want to be sure I don’t neglect. Friendships that span decades or new neighbors that we want to get to know are important both now and for a lifetime.

Over the last year, I’ve realized how easy it is to neglect key relationships. In 2020, I will make sure I’m not doing that.

Growing myself

This year I will develop myself in ways that support the three things above. I will exercise because it will make me a better family man with more energy. I will read more books because it will help me grow my company. I will go to lunch with a friend because it will build a key relationship. Etc.

For everything else, I’ll say no (or wait).
