“Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.”

I am finding myself wondering how to give myself away, how to lay down my life. How do I give my life away to my wife and my kids? How do I fully lay down my life for those that I love in order to offer them the greatest love that I can? How do I rid myself of myself so that I can be filled with the Lord and follow Him only, rather than myself? How do I love God enough to be willing to do more than physically die for Him? Physically dying for Christ is a one time sacrifice, laying down my life for him is a day by day, hour by hour, and moment by moment sacrifice.

I don’t think God is calling His people to lay down their lives resulting in death, but rather, He is calling us all to lay down your lives in service to Him and to other people.

As hard as it is, more and more I am convinced that in order to show the greatest love I can, I must fully give myself away, and in so doing, hold in faith that I will experience the greatest love in return. The love of a Father who gave himself away in love as well.
