I was listening to a podcast the other day, and the host asked his guest, “if you could talk to anyone living or dead and ask them a question, who would you talk to and what would you ask?” The response, “I would talk to my dad and ask if he is proud of me.” Wow. When I heard that I stopped in my tracks. I’ve been fortunate to have a dad that tells me he is proud of me often, so I’ve never thought about what it would be like to not have that. This guest was a very successful entrepreneur in many ways and more than anything he wants the affirmation of his father.
I have five kids. Hearing this reminded me of just how important it is to tell them how proud I am of them. It’s my job to celebrate their achievements. It’s my job to set them up for success, with the confidence that they are doing well. I want my kids never to question how proud I am of them and make it my daily goal to show them that. I hope you will too.
