I recently finished reading Arnold Schwarzenegger’s autobiography, Total Recall. It was fantastic! I learned a lot and was very motivated by it.

One of the most fascinating things about what Arnold was able to accomplish was how he was able to do so much in many different areas. He has been a champion body builder, real estate developer, the #1 movie star, governor, author and more. Even though each of the things he has done seem very disconnected, I noticed a common thread, Arnold would become the best and then move on to the next thing.

I think one of the reasons that people lack success is that they lack focus. They aren’t the best at anything, but they are adequate at everything. Being simply adequate is a sure fire way to miss your goals.

What Arnold taught me is that the first step in being successful is to be the best at something, and then use that success to drive you into the next thing. Then, be the best at that and move on to the next. Start with the small wins and build to the bigger ones.

Arnold started with a win as a junior bodybuilding champion in Europe that had dreams of coming to America. He ended up being the governor of one of America’s largest states and economies and a friend to multiple Presidents. How did he do it? One win at a time.
