On Dreaming Big

A little less than two years ago Jeff and I started talking about 48in48. We were wondering if it was possible to build 48 websites for 48 nonprofits in 48 hours. Could we get the volunteers? Could we get them to build the sites? How would we do it? Today I’m sitting on the 20th floor of LMHQ in New York City with 150 volunteers that have worked for 48 hours to build 48 websites for 48 nonprofits. Not only is it doable, but it has now been done three times with much more planned for the future.

Two years ago if someone had asked only me to create a hack-a-thon I probably would not have come up with 48in48. I would have set the bar at something attainable like ten sites. If it were only up to me, I would likely have created a great local event, but might not have gone national. But, fortunately, it wasn’t just me making that decision. I was partnering with Jeff who wasn’t afraid to dream big. Today those big dreams are paying off. New York City has benefitted today because of dreaming big. I can’t wait to see how many more cities benefit as a result of big dreaming.

Big dreaming pays off, and sometimes it just might change the world.
